Inspiring Tech Leaders - Exploring Generative AI in 2025

Dave Roberts Season 4 Episode 9

In this episode of the Inspiring Tech Leaders Podcast, I explore how Generative AI has evolved and discuss the latest breakthroughs with the technology, as well as the ethical and social challenges that we need to tackle.  Hear about how Generative AI is changing the way we work and the industries that are leveraging this technology.

How do you see Generative AI impacting your industry?  What excites or concerns you most about the technology?

Welcome to the Inspiring Tech Leaders podcast, with me Dave Roberts.  In this episode we’re going to explore one of the most exciting topics in tech at the moment; Generative AI.

Generative AI has come a long way in just a few short years, evolving from a buzzword into a transformative force reshaping industries and creativity itself. Today, we’ll unpack the breakthroughs, the opportunities, and the challenges this technology brings. By the end of this episode, you’ll not only understand where Generative AI stands but also how it might shape your world in the near future.

Let’s start with a quick snapshot of where we are today. Generative AI has made incredible strides since tools like ChatGPT, DALL·E, and others began gaining traction in the early 2020s. But what’s really changed in the past year?

First, we’ve seen major advancements in multimodal AI. This means that AI can now seamlessly integrate text, images, video, and even audio to create rich, immersive experiences. For instance, imagine describing a scene to an AI, and within seconds, it generates not just an image but an entire animated sequence complete with a soundtrack.

We’re also seeing AI systems become highly personalised. They now understand not just what you say but the context of your needs, adapting to your preferences in real time.

And these advancements are powering some incredible applications across industries. Take entertainment, AI is now co-creating movies, writing scripts, and even composing music. In healthcare, it’s being used to develop personalised treatments and assist doctors in diagnosing complex conditions.

In education, we’re witnessing AI designing custom learning paths for students, ensuring no one gets left behind. And in business, generative AI is automating content creation, from social media campaigns to detailed reports, saving companies countless hours.

It’s truly remarkable how far we’ve come, but with great power comes great responsibility, so let’s talk about some of the challenges this technology brings.

With all the amazing things Generative AI can do, it’s important to address the elephant in the room: the ethical and social implications of this technology.

One major concern is bias and misinformation. AI learns from data, and if that data contains biases, the AI might inadvertently spread that bias as fact. For example, an AI generating content about history could reflect biases present in its training material, potentially spreading misinformation. To counteract this, researchers are working on transparency tools and ethical frameworks to ensure AI outputs are fair and accurate.

Another issue is intellectual property. Who owns AI-generated content? Is it the creator of the AI, the person who used it, or maybe the AI itself? This legal grey area is something governments and companies are scrambling to address.

And then there’s the impact on jobs. While AI is automating many tasks, it’s also creating new opportunities. The key question is: how do we ensure workers have the skills to adapt and thrive in an AI-driven economy?

These challenges are real, but they’re not insurmountable. In fact, many of them are driving important conversations about how we can use AI responsibly.

But how Generative AI is impacting our daily lives.

First, there’s the concept of AI as a creative partner. For writers, artists, and musicians, AI isn’t replacing creativity, it’s amplifying it. Imagine using AI to brainstorm ideas for a novel or to create the perfect beat for your next song.

AI is also transforming personal experiences. From fitness plans tailored to your unique goals to meal recipes designed around your dietary preferences, AI is becoming a personal assistant in every sense of the word.

And let’s not forget the rise of digital identities. Virtual influencers and AI-generated avatars are changing how we express ourselves online. Whether you’re gaming, attending virtual meetings, or just hanging out in a metaverse, AI is helping people build richer, more authentic digital lives.

So, what’s next for Generative AI? Here are a few predictions for where this technology might be heading.

One exciting trend is the emergence of autonomous generative systems, AIs that don’t just respond to prompts but actively create, evolve, and iterate on their own. These systems could revolutionise fields like scientific research and gaming, creating self-sustaining virtual worlds or running complex simulations.

We’re also seeing a push for better AI regulation. Countries and organisations are working together to create policies that ensure AI development remains ethical and accountable. This is crucial for building trust in the technology.

Finally, the relationship between humans and AI is evolving. Rather than seeing AI as just a tool, we’re starting to view it as a partner, one that complements human creativity and problem-solving in powerful ways.

The next five years are going to be transformative, and I, for one, am excited to see how this technology continues to evolve.

Before we wrap up, let’s quickly recap. Generative AI in 2025 is more advanced, more integrated, and more impactful than ever. But it’s also raising important questions about ethics, creativity, and our role in an AI-driven world.

So, what about you? How do you see Generative AI shaping your industry or your life? What excites, or maybe even concerns you the most about this technology? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
